How OwnerLot works

OwnerLot is a United States marketplace for used cars for sale by owner. It exists because Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Autotrader, and Cars.com keep showing you a mix of cities and cloned dealer ads.

Exact city means exact city

If you pin Los Angeles, you do not get San Diego. If you pin New York, you do not get Brooklyn or Jersey City. Distance is off until you turn it on. Other sites treat a city as a suggestion. We treat it as a lock.

One VIN, one listing

A 17-character VIN can be listed once. Taking the ad down does not free that VIN for another account. Near-duplicates — same year and model, miles and price too close, from a different owner — are blocked too.

No cloned photos, no extra accounts

Photos are fingerprinted. Reordering pictures or renaming the title does not create a new car. Each person gets one account and one phone. People in the same home or on the same Wi‑Fi can each register. You can keep 3 cars live, and you cannot flood the site with a new ad every hour.

Member card

Every owner has a member card on their account and on each listing. The level is twenty ranks of real use on OwnerLot: a check-in each day you open the site, listing a car, chatting, marking a car sold, and being the buyer in a sold deal. Showing up for years is not enough by itself — level 20 stays slow on purpose. Level is not a review score and not a background check. After a sale, the buyer and seller can rate each other 1 to 5 stars. Those reviews show on the member card as seller rating and buyer rating.

OwnerLot Pro

A monthly Pro subscription ($9) highlights the member card and that owner's listings. In search, matching Pro ads show first — if you look up an Audi Q7, Pro Q7s come up before the other Q7s, then everyone else who matches. Filters still apply. It does not put a Pro truck above a Q7 you searched for. Commercial and special-equipment ads are $6 with Pro instead of $12.

Promote a listing

A live ad can be promoted for $7 for 7 days. In the default search order, matching promoted ads show first, then matching Pro ads, then everyone else who matches. Filters still apply. Promotion does not put a truck above a Q7 you searched for.

No dealers

Accounts are private individuals. There is no dealer package, no inventory feed, no lot tools. That is enough for a household. It is not enough for a storefront.
